Sam Thorpe, a former Stepping Stones student and current student at Grand Rapids City High School, is planning a playground improvement for Stepping Stones Montessori School. Sam's Eagle Scout project is to build a music wall on the outdoor campus at Stepping Stones. The wall will contain percussion instruments for students to use during outdoor play.
"We've been dreaming about a music wall on the playground for five years. We are thrilled that Sam contacted us and was just as excited about the project as we are," said Sarah Danielski, infant directress.
Our outdoor environment is an extension of our classrooms, and this addition to the playground will allow our students to explore sound, tone and rhythm through hands-on experiences. Because the music wall is outdoors, music will be experienced on a grander scale than can be created in the classroom.
If you're interested in donating towards Sam's costs on the project (totaling $250 in materials), click on our "Donate Now" button and note that this is for the music wall.
