Ultimate Frisbee and Montessori might seem like very different worlds, but they actually share a lot of values.
1. Responsibility & Independence
- In Ultimate, there are no referees — players make their own calls and resolve conflicts with honesty.
- In Montessori, children are trusted with independence and responsibility for their own learning and choices.
2. Collaboration & Community
- Ultimate emphasizes teamwork, communication, and supporting each other on the field.
- Montessori classrooms are cooperative, multi-age communities where students learn with and from one another.
3. Respect & Peace Education
- The "Spirit of the Game" in Ultimate is built on mutual respect, fairness, and integrity.
- Montessori emphasizes peace education, empathy, and respect for others as central to growth.
4. Intrinsic Motivation
- Players play Ultimate because it’s joyful, challenging, and fun, not for extrinsic rewards.
- Montessori students are guided by curiosity and intrinsic motivation rather than grades or prizes.
5. Whole Child Development
- Ultimate builds physical health, mental focus, and emotional resilience.
- Montessori nurtures the whole child — mind, body, and spirit — preparing them for life, not just academics.
In short: both Ultimate Frisbee and Montessori are about independence, respect, and community. One happens on the field, the other in the classroom — but the values overlap beautifully.
Just like in Ultimate, our students practice:
✔️ Responsibility — no referees, players make their own calls
✔️ Collaboration — teamwork and communication are everything
✔️ Respect — the Spirit of the Game mirrors Montessori peace education
✔️ Intrinsic Motivation — playing for the joy of growth, not just the win
On the field or in the classroom, Montessori values shine through.
