Our School

Welcome to Stepping Stones Montessori School

Stepping Stones is not a typical school. We are a passionate community of self-directed children, Montessori-certified educators, supportive administrators, and dedicated parents. We partner with families so that we can better support the natural development of their children. 

In the early 1900s, Dr. Maria Montessori proposed the theory of the Four Planes of Development: a non-linear progression of how humans learn. This physician and educator who gave rise to an entire educational movement was ahead of her time. Today, technology offers proof that learning begins before birth and that young children's brains are wired to explore their surroundings and direct their own learning. Our classroom environments here at SSMS are carefully prepared to respond to the needs of children in the first, second, and third planes of development: from the purposeful work in the Children’s House (ages 3-6) to the micro-economy at the middle school (ages 12–15).

Please note that we do not offer our Toddler program to the general public, as it is reserved for staff and sibling students.
